Joanna Ponce's Effective Literacy Website #2 - Nearpod

Nearpod (https://nearpod.com) is a great platform and/or website to use for various subjects that are taught in school. Focusing on literacy there are “lessons” that teachers can present or assign to the students that can promote literacy. There are various activities that can be used such as quizzes, class polls, short answer questions, images, and such that can help to improve one’s literacy.

Another feature that assists teachers when using Nearpod are the availability of pre-made slides that teachers can utilize but also can customize to fit the needs of their students. The teacher can spend more time going over the lessons and its content, rather than spending that time creating slides from scratch. There are various reading and literacy lessons that teachers can use with their students.

Nearpod provides the teachers with various opportunities to get real-time feedback and insights into how much of the lesson their students are understanding. With the real-time insight, the teacher is able to note what is working and what needs to be taught further, during the lesson. The teachers can assign these slides to be completed as part of distance learning or even in the classroom. The slides can include literacy activities that help students who might be struggling with their sight words, reading comprehension, and literacy in general. There are short videos embedded in various slides, so the students do not have to leave the Nearpod site to access videos relating to their lessons. They can also present the slides as a whole class lesson. With the quiz portion of the slides, the teacher is able to track the student's scores and progress with the current lesson.

Teachers are able to sign-up for the free version of the platform and will have access to the essentials that Nearpod provides. It is enough for the teacher to be able to utilize the platform correctly. Overall, this is a great literacy website and a useful website in general for teachers who are trying to incorporate more technology into their classrooms, as well as for the teachers who have continuously use technology in their classrooms.

Ciera’s Farewell

Just like that fall intersession is over and spring semester is approaching. I had a great time reading through everyone’s literacy reviews....
