Joanna Ponce's Effective Literacy Website #3 - The Free Reading Program

The Free Reading Program (https://freereadingprogram.com) is a literacy website that anyone can sign-up for, create an account for their students and the students are given the opportunities to complete various literacy activities that can help improve their skills. The website has various activities from the fundamentals to level 6. In each level the student is given a variety of activities such as matching the words, to reading passages that are followed up by questions.

You do have to create an account in order to use all the material available on this site. To create an account, you just need an email and the account is free. Once you have your account, you will be able to access the material you will need for the grade-level that you teach or possibly the grade-level that your student(s) might need based upon their reading/literacy level. Teachers or users of the website can also add their students and include a password for their students to use to log in. This website provides various activities that target various literacy skills. You are able to access activities that focus on sight words, where the student is provided with word lists and a lot of more basic words. There are also stories that students can read that include activities throughout. Another great feature of The Free Reading Program is that there is a play button that the students/user can utilize and it will read the text aloud. This is a great feature that can assist the students who are struggling with their reading and literacy. At the end of each activity, there is a star that shows how many attempts and the percentage of correct answers is displayed. This is a great feature to use for tracking and seeing whether any improvement is occurring with the student’s reading and literacy skills.

Upon navigating the rest of the levels, I discovered that the activities become even more specific. I specifically looked up level five and with this level under vocabulary builder, homophones, homonyms, antonyms, figurative language, easily confused words, prefixes, and suffixes. This is beneficial for those who might need the extra practice in understanding these specific skills.

This website would be a great supplemental activity that teachers can have their students utilize in the classroom. It has enough features and useful reading activities that can assist all students, whether they are struggling with their literacy skills, or just need extra practice to continue enriching their reading/literacy skills.

Ciera’s Farewell

Just like that fall intersession is over and spring semester is approaching. I had a great time reading through everyone’s literacy reviews....
