IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #4

Learning Ally (https://learningally.org/) is an educational organization that provides audiobooks and other resources to support individuals with learning disabilities or visual impairments. Learning Ally primarily serves students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, as well as individuals with visual impairments. It aims to provide accessible educational materials to support their learning.

Learning Ally offers a vast audiobook library, including textbooks and literature, in audio format. This provides an alternative and accessible way for students to access educational content. The platform is designed with accessibility in mind, offering features such as text-to-speech functionality, customizable fonts, and other tools to enhance the learning experience for individuals with different needs. Learning Ally provides additional resources, including teacher resources, professional development materials, and support for educators working with students who have learning differences.

The platform is known for its commitment to supporting diverse learning needs. It aims to level the playing field for students with learning differences, providing them with the tools necessary for academic success. Learning Ally’s  user interface is designed to be user-friendly, with features that cater to the specific needs of its target audience. Navigation and accessibility are key components of the design. Learning Ally materials are mostly aligned with educational standards which makes it easier for educators to incorporate them into their curriculum while ensuring that students receive content relevant to their grade level.

Learning Ally is not a free platform but offers some free resources. It operates on a subscription model where schools, educators, or individuals subscribe to gain access to the audiobook library and other additional resources. Learning Ally fosters a community where educators, parents, and students can share experiences and support one another. This sense of community can be valuable for individuals facing similar challenges.

Learning Ally is a valuable resource for individuals with learning differences or visual impairments, providing accessible educational content and support for educators. It is a great resource for any school to adopt and helps to bridge gaps that students with learning disabilities may face.
