IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #5

Awesome Stories (https://www.awesomestories.com/) is an innovative platform with accompanying applications that serve as a guide for teachers aiming to scult the minds of tomorrow. The Awesome Stories helps to guide students towards the development of research, evaluation, and analysis skills. Using these skills allows learners to navigate the vast landscape of information that Awesome Stories offers.

The Awesome Stories website allows students to work on the art of communication and critical thinking. Each story offers different activities and suggestions that educators can use in in making each experience as engaging as the next. Each lesson uses an integrated approach by combining visual arts, science, and language arts. Students are able to create their own stories, using Awesome Stories’ archives of primary sources to help relate to their class. The website also offers video with each online book to help accompany a part of the story. For example, a section of Charlotte’s Web offers a synopsis, learning tasks, questions to ponder, and a media stream.

Awesome Stories is a great resource that unfortunately requires a yearly subscription that starts at $60 a year. This platform is a great resource and offers such a diverse collection of stories. Educators can find a story for almost any topic they teach and given that there are other resources that accompany each story, much of an educator’s lesson is already made.

As stated previously, Awesome Stories stands out by offering and supporting cross-subject teaching, the platform enables educators to seamlessly weave diverse narratives into their lessons, providing a holistic understanding of concepts. Awesome Stories empowers teachers to guide students towards a future where research, analysis, communication, and critical thinking are not just skills but pillars of success.

Ciera’s Farewell

Just like that fall intersession is over and spring semester is approaching. I had a great time reading through everyone’s literacy reviews....
