Story Place

 Effective Literacy Website #5

Story Place

URL: https://www.storyplace.org/

The Story Place website is a fantastic resource designed for early learners such as preschool and kindergarten students, providing a diverse collection of interactive stories to support the beginning stages of literacy. This website is tailored for students exploring new vocabulary and concepts about print.  The Story Place creates a virtual learning environment that is both engaging and educational.

A standout feature is its user-friendly design, allowing children and parents to seamlessly interact with the content without navigating through numerous clicks and tabs. What I find particularly useful is the convenience of finding various activities related to a specific story all on one page. The website begins by selecting a theme, offering a read-aloud and interactive story with the option of translation to Spanish for English Language Learners.

It features two interconnected online stories and engaging sing-along videos to enhance language development and motor skills. The platform encourages extended reading with a list of related books and includes a take-home activity, complete with a craft related to the read-aloud story, promoting hands-on learning experiences.

With a variety of themes to choose from, The Story Place ensures that lessons are easily accessible and enjoyable for both children and their parents, creating a well-rounded and immersive early learning platform. This website has received many awards from well-known online reading websites such as the Editor’s Choice Award, Great Websites for Kids, PBS Teacher Source, USA Today  Net- Mom Approved and Education World. This shows this website to be an effective online resource to increase early literacy for students.

Ciera’s Farewell

Just like that fall intersession is over and spring semester is approaching. I had a great time reading through everyone’s literacy reviews....
