Teresa D: Effective Literacy Website #3: Storynory

Storynory is a website that provides free audio stories for children. It offers a library of narrated stories, fairy tales, and unique content that may be listened to online or downloaded for offline usage. It fosters literacy and a love of storytelling in young audiences.

In participating in stories, the children listen carefully, and they read along the words. In this way, it helps improve students’ vocabulary and spelling. Another approach to mastering reading skills is by listening to various stories. It also encourages children to use their imaginations by allowing them to construct their own stories or characters based on the stories they hear. In the story 'The Emperor's New Clothes,' for example, youngsters can design characters with various personalities and roles, such as the Emperor's advisors or the people in the crowd. Students can be creative with their imagination on how the story ends. It gives students the freedom to use critical thinking or creative imaginary ways to resolve or end the story. When students are given the opportunity to be creative, teachers may be surprised by the end results.
Moreover, Storynory may offer stories in multiple languages, providing an opportunity for language learning and cultural exposure. Children are listening to different versions of fairy tales or stories created by other cultures. It is for children to appreciate and be exposed to how other cultures retell stories. Cultural exposure to children can be beneficial in such a way it fosters an understanding and appreciation of diversity, customs, and other traditions.

Furthermore, the website can be used for the family to have quality time. Parents can utilize Storynory to help their children enhance their listening and reading skills. It provides an opportunity for the family to spend quality bonding time as they listen and discuss the stories together.
