Straightforward, this literacy website has identified its taxonomy as Reading Universe (RU) Taxonomy. As you visit this site, you'll find a collection of targeted skills support in the TAXONOMY tab at the top far right of the page. The Taxonomy page can be viewed in two modes: Collapse Taxonomy and Expanded Full Taxonomy. The collapse mode shows the category of skills that are expected to be assessed in school, such as Word Recognition,
Language Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Fluency, and Writing. Each one of these concepts is defined in fine print on a tab. When clicked, it leads to a page that lists subskills linked to another page filled with interactive videos, lesson plans, articles, printable worksheets, and more.

The formula of their taxonomy suggests that "The Simple View of Reading" is Word Recognition x Language Comprehension = Reading Comprehension. All are under one umbrella called Structured Literacy, which has a tab that leads to a page to learn more. Clicking the expanded mode on Taxonomy allows one to view more detailed, in-depth slices of the essential reading skills. It shows how they're connected and lays the groundwork for teaching all students how to read and write.

Further, explore Reading Universe with featured tabs: Big Picture, Explore Teaching Topics, Top Q & A, and Community. Big Picture drops down to eight highly thought-out educator topics that share the pedagogy of reading research-based instruction and other research methods. You can find many research-supported literacy articles and articles that support Bilingual learners.

Ciera’s Farewell

Just like that fall intersession is over and spring semester is approaching. I had a great time reading through everyone’s literacy reviews....
