Effective Literacy Website #4: Story Time from Space by Tammy Leon Guerrero

Story Time from Space (https://storytimefromspace.com/) is, just as the name suggests, a website that offers stories read from outer space. Story Time from Space is part of the Global Space Education Foundation that sends children's books to the International Space Station.

According to the site, Story Time from Space was started by educator Patricia Tribe and astronaut Alvin Drew. The team grew to include a veteran astronaut, a website and marketing educator, and an author whose books are shared on the site. Story Time from Space works alongside various organizations such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), T2 Science & Math Educational Consultants, the Center for the Advancement of Science and Space (CASIS), and more.

On Story Time from Space, astronauts videotape themselves reading books. The videos are then edited and posted on the website. The site offers over thirty children's books read aloud. These books are also linked on the site for purchase from Amazon.com.

Another great feature the site offers is "Science Time Videos." Under this tab, children can learn about science concepts such as gravity and speed. Science experiments to explain these concepts are conducted by astronauts on board the International Space Station.

Story Time from Space also has a tab catered to educators. The site offers a curriculum curated by educators and scientists to ensure that the activities offered meet the needs of students learning science concepts, research, and literacy.

Story Time from Space is an excellent tool for educators, families, and students. the site links important science topics that help explain how things on Earth and in space work with literacy.

Just like that fall intersession is over and spring semester is approaching. I had a great time reading through everyone’s literacy reviews....
