Effective Literacy Website #5: Vocabulary A-Z

For my ILA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #5 Exploration, I will be exploring and reviewing Vocabulary A-Z (https://www.vocabularya-z.com/#!/). This website assists students between kindergarten through 5th grade with building vocabulary. Students are able to practice with customizable word lists, lessons on print or digital, and online game-based activities. If I were to subscribe to Vocabulary A-Z, I would be able to assign lessons to my students, which include independent practice assignments. I would also be able to access and print out a five-day lesson plan for classroom instruction. This website works best when planning on lessons for certain units of instruction in ELA.

This website has a free trial for 14 days. After the trial is over, a payment of $121 is required for a 1-year license subscription to one classroom. A subscribed can access premade lesson, which include lessons for reading, science, or lessons for English Language Learners. Three tabs at the top of the website include new lesson, premade lessons, and custom lessons. As a subscriber, you are able to create new lessons and utilize it later. You can also access many different lessons from the above-mentioned subjects. Lastly, as your own personally created lessons compile, you may utilize those under “custom lessons”.

As students complete their assignments at home or on the go, they receive rewards for assignment completion. This serves as a morale booster and an incentive. This is best to use to motivate students to continue to learn and be engaged in the lessons. Teachers are able to manage their students’ progress and assignment completion. This benefits the teachers as they are able to view their progress virtually. Vocabulary A-Z is a great and effective website for literacy especially because both parents and teachers can utilize it for their child or student at home, school, and on the go.
